Guest speaker: Kira Taylor is an incoming Environmental Science graduate student at Western Washington University, with a focus on Fungal Ecology. She was a 2011 North American Mycological Association voucher student, and assisted in research being conducted on soil fungi at Indiana University. She has had a longstanding interest in identifying, cooking, and learning about the fascinating diversity within Kingdom Fungi, and has foraged for mushrooms in places as diverse as New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Hawaii, Colorado, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, California, and here in glorious Washington state. New Zealand fungi is of particular interest to her, as she was a member of, and active participant in the Fungal Network of New Zealand for two years, and lived in the country off and on for nearly that long.
